Grayshift launches new solution for mobile access, digital evidence extraction for eDiscovery, corporate investigations

U.S.-based mobile digital forensics solutions provider Grayshift announced it has launched a new solution for mobile device access and extraction of digital evidence for eDiscovery matters and corporate investigations.

Built on a consent-based approach to accessing the device, VeraKey enables organizations to conduct thorough mobile device investigations, providing access to mobile digital evidence.

According to Grayshift, the new solution will enable enterprises to investigate anti-trust, bribery, compliance, data theft, fraud, IP theft, and corporate sabotage.

Among specific capabilities of the new tool are streamlined eDiscovery and corporate investigations, mobile device coverage with access to the latest iOS and Android devices, Full File System (FFS) extraction​s, Expedient Time-to-First-Fact (TTFF), as well as efficient data archiving and accessibility through integrated cloud storage technology, the company added.

Established in 2016, Atlanta-based Grayshift is a provider of mobile device digital forensics. The December 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino, CA, and the resulting publicity over the difficulty to extract data from the suspect’s iPhone, served as a catalyst to found Grayshift and to build forensic access solutions, according to the company’s website. In 2018, the company launched its flagship GrayKey technology, which is currently used by 1,500 public safety agencies across 40 countries worldwide.

In June 2022, Grayshift was acquired by software investment firm Thoma Bravo, which had some $120 billion in assets under management as of end-September 2022.

In January, Thoma Bravo has entered a definite arrangement agreement to buy Canadian developer of digital investigation solutions for enterprises and public safety organizations Magnet Forensics Inc. (TSX: MAGT) for an estimated CA$1.8 billion, aiming to create an end-to-end digital investigation platform by merging it Grayshift.
