The news division of UK’s national broadcaster BBC announced it is launching BBC Verify, a new brand which will showcase the advanced editorial tools and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques BBC news journalists are using to investigate, source and verify information, video, and images.
BBC Verify is a highly specialised team with a range of forensic and OSINT capabilities that enable them to go beyond conventional newsroom techniques, who will share the evidence of their work with their audiences, the news broadcaster said.
The team consists of around 60 journalists, who will work across a range of stories, from breaking news to analysis and visual journalism all the way to original investigations.
“BBC Verify is transparency in action – fact-checking, verifying video, countering disinformation, analysing data and explaining complex stories in the pursuit of truth,” BBC News CEO Deborah Turness said.
According to BBC News, the new brand will address the growing threat of disinformation and build trust with audiences by transparently showing how BBC journalists know the information they are reporting.
BBC Verify will be seen on screen, including regular contributions on the BBC News channel and online in the coming weeks.
