Munich-based intelligence visualisation platform Maltego Technologies , one of the world’s most widely used for OSINT and investigations, announced that it has acquired Hunchly, a tool for capturing and preserving online evidence.
Together, Maltego and Hunchly provide investigators with a more complete workflow, pairing in-browser evidence collection with deeper data analysis and insights powered by industry-leading APIs, Maltego said.
This partnership delivers a seamless investigation experience for professionals who need to move faster, go deeper, and uncover the truth with confidence.
Earlier in 2024, Maltego expanded further by acquiring PublicSonar and Social Network Harvester, now known as Maltego Monitor and Maltego Evidence. These additions brought new capabilities for social media monitoring and deep social network analysis, pushing Maltego closer to its goal of delivering a complete, end-to-end investigative platform.
With the acquisition of Hunchly, we’re taking a decisive step toward covering the entire investigative workflow, remaining true to our ‘investigator-first’ philosophy. Our vision has always been shaped by the real needs of those who use our tools every day, and I am confident this integration will offer a comprehensive experience that truly reflects how investigators work,” Maltego CEO Ohilip Mayrohfer said.
In the coming months, Maltego and Hunchly will work closely to ensure a smooth integration of products, teams, brands, and services.
“Maltego is known and respected among investigative professionals for its ability to uncover connections across complex data,” said Brock Lupton, Vice President of Product and Innovation at Hunchly. “This strategic decision enhances seamless investigative workflows and brings together capability, community, and mission for greater impact. Hunchly has earned the trust of investigators by focusing on what matters most to them, and together with Maltego, we will take that mission even further, making investigations more efficient while preserving depth, accuracy, and control.”
Maltego was developed in 2007 by Paterva, a Pretoria, South Africa-based company. In order to be able to handle the high growth and needs of increasingly professional customer segments, Paterva in 2008 entrusted the Munich-based Maltego Technologies with managing all customer-facing operations and developing new solutions, according to data available on both companies’ corporate websites.
Since 2017, Maltego was part of German investment management company Maxburg Capital Partners‘ portfolio. During the five years, the company reached over 100 employees and realized more than 4x profitable ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) growth, according to Maltego’s CEO.
Maltego’s platform is now used by a broad audience, from security professionals and pen testers to forensic investigators, investigative journalists, and market researchers. Maltego has grown to over 150 employees across six continents and works with customers including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, INTERPOL, and major financial and private companies, including half of the DOW 30.
Hunchly is a web capture and evidence preservation tool that helps investigators securely collect, organize, and preserve online content from websites and social media. It captures complete page data, including the full-page content, metadata, and timestamps, to ensure transparent and legally defensible investigations. Launched in 2015 by Dark River Systems and later supported by Sapper Labs, Hunchly quickly gained global adoption among investigative professionals. In 2022, the two companies merged to form Sapper Labs Group.
